2019 In review

Well it’s just about time to flip the calendar, as it were, to 2020, so let’s do a quick recap of my 2019. I think I can fairly safely say that it was, if not my best year ever, it was certainly my most productive.

Way back in the end of January, I release A Shifting Alliance, book 3 in the Galaxy Ascendant series, and we were just getting started. Stories of mine went on to appear in two successful anthologies in the spring, and following my best crowdfunding campaigns yet, I released books 4 & 5 in the series, A Fiery Reckoning Parts 1 & 2. Readers seem to be greatly enjoying them, which of course makes me happy.

In other writing news, I’ve finished book 6, An Ancient Stirring, which I am funding on Kickstarter now, and am more than a third of the way done (closing in on the halfway mark) with book 7. Both of those will be out next year, along with, G-d willing, other projects–but that’s a subject for another post.

This year was also great from another few angles. I had a great final year in the IDF (wish I could’ve extended more than just the 6 months I added on in June). It was a more exciting year, with 2 deployments down to the Gaza region when we almost went to war and multiple large exercises, and I received an excellence award. That all concluded a couple weeks ago (though I’ll still be in the reserves for at least a decade), and as sad as I am to be done, I am blessed to have had the privilege of serving as long as I did–I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

As some of you might’ve seen if you follow my twitter, I’ve also ramped up my Ninja Warrior training. I auditioned for season 2 last February, and made it to the second audition round before my journey ended, but after moving to a new city, I’m now very close to a Ninja gym, and I’m far stronger than I was a year ago. As I write this, I’ve just gotten back from a successful first round of auditions & interview. G-d willing I’ll get called back for round 2, and make it onto the show itself here in Israel next season–representing authors worldwide!

That’s pretty much it in terms of major occurrences for 2019, apart maybe from a fun family trip to Hawaii back in August.

G-d willing, 2020 will far exceed 2019 in greatness, and, shortly after the new year, I look forward to sharing with you my writing plans for the year. Spoiler, I have a LOT planned.

Until then, please check out the Kickstarter for An Ancient Stirring. There are numerous reward tiers, ranging from the ebooks, to print books, to opportunities to help create a character or design a ship, or commission a short story. And brand new for this campaign, one-of-a-kind sketches by cover artist John Zeleznik, from the creation process of the book’s cover art. Grab them before someone else does!
