After-Action Thoughts on the Launch of A Looming Shadow

So, it’s been just about a week since the launch of A Looming Shadow, book 2 in the Galaxy Ascendant series. Honestly, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect, though I had hopes of improving on the May launch of A Greater Duty. Fortunately, and thankfully, I have managed to do just that. Between more active marketing, Amazon ads, a supportive writing community, some great advice (and examples worth following) from authors including (but not limited to ) Jon Del Arroz, Nick Cole, and Jason Anspach, I’ve had my best week of sales since A Greater Duty launched. Not huge numbers, but good compared to how I’ve done the last couple of months–and, as I hoped, I’ve sold significantly more copies of A Greater Duty than A Looming Shadow, which hopefully means that I’m starting to draw in new people that will, G-d willing, come back and pick up A Looming Shadow. And this is before I’ve even released the print version of the book yet, which will hopefully lead to some more sales.

I’ve been getting less writing done this month in favor of spending my remaining time before I start my army service working on marketing, and I think it’s been a fair trade-off.

That said, once I do draft (this coming Sunday) I will lose most, if not nearly all, of my free time for at least the next couple of months, if not for the entire 18 months (including time off) of my service. It’s clearly not the best career move, but it’s a sacrifice I have to make to fulfill this obligation I’ve chosen to take upon myself. In that vein, I would be forever grateful if those of you who enjoy my posts here, as well as my fiction, to help spread the word, so that I can continue the upward trajectory I have been on this year.

I will be as active as I can going forward (and you can expect another post or two before I draft), but as I’ve said, my time to write books, blog posts, and even tweets will be limited. I still do hope to continue releasing free short fiction set in the Galaxy Ascendant to those subscribed to my email list during this time, so now is the time to sign up for that. If you ever needed a guarantee that the list won’t spam you with posts, my limited time to write anything should make that promise sealed in stone. Additionally, I will be releasing my first epic fantasy novel, The Dragon Hand, sometime this coming summer, so expect some posts on that as the time approaches, and I have another book that is fairly far along which I hope to release in spring of 2019.

That’s all for now, but expect some more content here later this week, and if you haven’t already, pick up A Greater Duty, which is still on sale for only $0.99, as well as A Looming Shadow. All support is greatly appreciated!
